Overview

"A qualitative research study was done wherein theatre educators of different grade ranges were interviewed about their experiences teaching students with anxiety. The goal was to create a resource of practical advice for handling student anxiety and to illuminate some challenges and gaps in training. Interviews were transcribed and coded for patterns and trends, then conclusions were drawn based on these patterns and trends. The study found that while the national conversation around mental health has become more supportive, the subjects interviewed all felt insufficiently trained for dealing with issues of mental health. Despite this, subjects were able to draw on personal experiences to share a number of practical approaches to handling student anxiety as well as discuss the importance of communication from the top-down." -- Abstract
