Overview

"Kendall Allen is a seventeen-year-old high school senior who will do anything to leave Memphis, Tennessee. Seven years ago, Kendall's father, Kenny Allen Sr., a beloved NBA star, was gunned down in downtown Memphis and died in her arms. Kendall longs to graduate and attend Tennessee State University to study music, but her grandmother, Stella, who controls her father's estate, will only fund Kendall's education if she agrees to attend Princeton University. Following an armed robbery of the neighborhood convenience store, Kendall is traumatized and begins reliving her father's brutal murder. Shortly after the robbery, Kendall meets DeMar, an aspiring rapper. Kendall and DeMar bond over music and unexpectedly fall in love. Just as quickly as the two fall in love, things crumble after Kendall sees DeMar's birthmark, forcing her to realize he was the one who robbed the convenience store and stole her struggling family's rent money." -- Abstract
