The bulk of this series is comprised of correspondence to and from Sigmund A. Lavine, regarding various Gilbert and Sullivan productions, exhibits, projects, and books. This series also contains a short note from W.S. Gilbert dated July 9th, 1904. Also included are some blank letterhead and envelopes from the D'Oyly Carte Company and others.

Scope and Contents

This series contains drawings, prints, and artwork, both original and reproduced. The bulk of the items are made up of costume and character sketches from various operas, as well as depictions of Gilbert and Sullivan themselves. Included are some hand-drawn character sketches by actor Robert Pitkin, and prints of Lucille Corcos' illustrations for "A Treasury of Gilbert & Sullivan". Most drawings are not dated or signed.

Scope and Contents

This series contains 14 magazines, mostly theatre and entertainment-related, which contain articles about Gilbert and Sullivan. The majority of the early magazines are London-based, but the series also includes copies of LIFE and the Beanpot, BU's student publication. The series also contains two volumes of the Gilbert & Sullivan Journal, a publication from the Gilbert & Sullivan Society, from 1925.

This series consists of items seemingly unrelated to Gilbert and Sullivan which were found within the collection. Items include flyers for upcoming non-G&S plays, fragments of sheet music, and unidentified ticket stubs. Also included is a scrapbook of German theatre programs and flyers from 1892-1893, which includes a single performance of The Mikado.

Scope and Contents This series contains musical scores for the Gilbert and Sullivan operas, and consists of vocal, piano, pianoforte, and a variety of other arrangements. Some items are sheet music, and others are published books of music, either of all of the opera's songs or in a collection of popular songs. There are also several treasuries of Gilbert and Sullivan songs. This series includes recordings on various vinyl formats of The Mikado, Princess Ida, The Sorcerer, and The Yeomen of the Guard, as well as Golden Record Library's LP "The Best of Gilbert and Sullivan". Included is a 45 EP of The Yeomen of the Guard, and a book of ten (one missing) Victor Red Seal 78 records of The Mikado, performed by the D'Oyly Carte Company and conducted by Isidore Godfrey in 1936.
