Scope and Contents
This series includes recordings on various vinyl formats of The Mikado, Princess Ida, The Sorcerer, and The Yeomen of the Guard, as well as Golden Record Library's LP "The Best of Gilbert and Sullivan". Included is a 45 EP of The Yeomen of the Guard, and a book of ten (one missing) Victor Red Seal 78 records of The Mikado, performed by the D'Oyly Carte Company and conducted by Isidore Godfrey in 1936.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The collection was assembled by Sigmund A. Lavine and placed on loan at Emerson College Archives in 1994, with ownership of a portion of the collection transferring to Emerson each subsequent year. Following Lavine's death in 1996, the entire collection became the sole property of the Archives, according to his wishes, and at the behest of his family.
