Overview

"The Banquet is a novel told from the alternating viewpoints of Mariana and Cecily, two adult sisters whose lives become newly intertwined when they bring their families to Tuscany on an ill-fated summer vacation that culminates in the mysterious death of their host. As the sisters try to make sense of what has happened, they are forced to reckon with with their marriages, their identities, and their blindspots. Set against the backdrop of the Palio, a legendary annual horse race in Siena's medieval town square, The Banquet, at its heart, is about the double-edged sword of all relationships, and what it means to really love someone." -- Abstract
