Overview
"Working Woman is a feature length film about discovering one's life path. Kayla Porter, a Black woman in her late 20s and is as smart as she is beautiful. Kayla's entire life has revolved around being successful. Her motivation comes from her upbringing. With her dad absent and her mother having drug and alcohol issues, Kayla promised herself to be better than where she came from. Her Aunt, Regina made sure of it too, getting custody of Kayla when she was 10. Right after graduating college, Kayla received her first job offer at a top broadcasting company in New York City. A few years and job promotions later, Kayla is on top as an Executive Producer of her news team. Kayla spends her days being on top of the latest news and leading her team in broadcasting it to the public. In the process, her show is number one for the network and she is being considered for another promotion. One day after work, Kayla goes home to find her mother sitting outside her apartment building. Haven't seen her estranged mother, Caroline in years, Kayla's first reaction is to ignore her presence, but thinks better of it and allows her to stay at her place for a night. During this time, Kayla discovers Caroline's medical papers stating she is terminally ill. This sets Kayla on a path she never intended to be on as she now has to try to balance her career with not only her mother's health situation but also their relationship. With this change comes a bunch of others and in the end, Kayla learns that life is more about love than success." -- Abstract
