Overview

"With my essay collection "Smart Girls," I aimed to explore issues that I have personally encountered in my life that I've noticed are not in any way unique to me. I wanted to write openly about what it's like to deal with clinical depression, the loss of a loved one, religious conflict in families, and simply exist as a young woman in the twenty-first century. It was my goal when writing these essays to provide insight especially into navigating one's early- to mid-twenties while suffering from mental health issues, at a time when they are becoming more socially acceptable and widespread." -- Abstract
