Overview

"'Misfortune Factory' emphasizes the mutation inherent to evolution. Dubois borrows elements of formal tradition from the past millennium of English poetry and recombines them in unexpected shapes. Through this patchwork verse, Dubois shines a spotlight on universal patterns: first zeroing in on the microscopic, then zooming out to the cosmic. These 40 original poems paint invisible connections between algae, animalia, Applebee's, and outer space with a defamiliarized and ironic eye. The collection orbits the central question 'what has become of us?' and answers with a resounding 'everything.'" -- Abstract
