Overview

"This master's thesis comprises the first six chapters of Ascension, a young adult fantasy novel-in-progress. The story follows seventeen-year-old Dante Aldrich as he copes with the abandonment of his father in the small town of Milford, New Jersey. After meeting a mysterious new girl in his history class, Kaiko, Dante learns that he has the ability to control magic as one of the cryptic magi: powerful beings tasked with bringing order to the mythical and material worlds. While learning more about the existence of magic and its implications, he also struggles to balance both his tainted friendship with Dylan, his longtime best friend, and his growing attachment to Kaiko. These initial chapters focus on themes such as coming-of-age, found family, loneliness, self-realization, and the processing of grief." -- Abstract
