Overview

"The Fire of Witches is a new-adult, fantasy novel centered around Eliza Barton, a fire elemental amidst the Asnian nation's first witch hunt. Throughout the duration of the novel, Eliza struggles to keep herself and her mother, Jasmine, safe as she becomes a valuable asset to the king's regime, all while her magic-- and her beliefs about magic-- begin to waver. Eliza encounters several characters within the story who challenge her spiritually and mentally, contributing to a waning belief in the magic she has always honored and an increased fear for her life. These characters include Niklaus Irving (the king's nephew), Theodora Grey (a resurrected witch), Avani Onir (the king's tea taster), and King Cassius himself. All the while, the immortal spearhead of her coven, Nishrita, has seemingly fallen silent. The work explores themes such as religious trauma, the value of female relationships, and the unintended consequences of facing adversity." -- Abstract
