Overview
"Ward Foster, a 21-year-old perpetual loser is on his way to a date (his first in years) when he is flattened by a semi-truck. He wakes up in the purgatory waiting room, and when his name is called to ascend to the pearly gates, he accepts his lot and makes his way to the afterlife. However, stairs can be tricky. One wrong step leads to him plummeting straight down to the doors of Hell and abandoning all hope. That is, until he meets Caydes DeMonium, a centuries-old demon slacker. Caydes takes Ward into his home and helps him adapt to a new life, one that isn't so bad as it seems. Ward must learn to pass as a demon if he is to ever find his way out of Hell. But, along the way, he may learn that the underworld isn't so bad as it seems. Simon Grant is a 45-year-old English professor and poet, who once made it big by winning a major New England poetry award. His star has fizzled though, making him bitter in his middle age. Feeling unfulfilled and worthless, he learns of a short story competition that grants the winner $10,000 and a guaranteed publishing deal. There's only one problem- every one of his colleagues will be participating. The dejected Simon resigns himself to failure... that is until he accidentally runs over a competitor with his car. This gives him an idea- if there's no competition, then there are no obstacles to his victory. Simon embarks on a killing spree, hiding the bodies of his fellow writers deep in the woods. However, things become tough when contest front- runner June Lark grows suspicious of the dwindling participants. It's even tougher considering June is Simon's wife." -- Abstract
