Overview

"In my practice as a drama teacher, one thing that I value deeply is the way students treat the people around them. Day to day, students are tasked with practicing their reading, writing, math, etc. Why can't we create opportunities for them to practice being a good person? That's where drama comes into the picture. Drama is a practice that inherently requires its participants to empathize with others. Whether it be acting a role, watching a performance, or analyzing a script, drama requires those participating to become involved. Through the practice of "drama in role," teachers act alongside students and facilitate learning by doing. By designing a "drama in role," curriculum for high school students, I hope to expand their capacity for social and emotional learning. This thesis project will follow the implementation of this curriculum over the course of six workshops with 10 high school drama students." -- Abstract
