Overview

"'Tarrying' is an audio collage created through spiritual rituals and improvisational jazz practices. This project includes interviews with singers, instrumentalists, actors, and producers to whom I am connected and have come to admire. The listener is invited to engage with the audio through embodied exercises and reflections indicated in the liner notes. Following adrienne maree brown's Pleasure Activism (2019), "Tarrying" encourages listeners to allow the listening experience and invitations into physical and spiritual awareness to cultivate a pleasure practice designed to awaken your spirit. The reflection paper accompanying "Tarrying" offers some project history, context, and lessons learned. Taken together, this project and reflection paper explore the discovery that my artistic practice—and that of my mentors—is inextricably linked to my spiritual practice, and that a connection to Spirit must include connection to physical body and one's own awareness of how their physical body interacts with, responds to, and makes sense of world." -- Abstract
