Overview
"Applied Theatre practices are used to build community amongst populations of people in diverse settings with and without prior experience participating in the performing arts. This thesis reflection explores the impact Applied Theatre practices can have on building community with people who have experienced grief through the lens of loss. The creative process of building an Applied Theatre workshop is examined in a collegiate setting from building and designing curriculum, reflective engagement from participant experience, and a fly on the wall perspective of what occurred in the space. Workshop components include examination of the seven stages of grief through definition and activation, theatre-based game play, and Applied Theatre exercises. Observations of the ways individuals were able to express themselves in group and connect with others are reflected upon to examine how a group of participants impacted by grief find community in shared spaces together while engaging in Applied Theatre techniques." -- Abstract
