Overview
"This pilot qualitative research study seeks to examine the role childcare plays in the everyday life of mothers. It investigates the accessibility of affordable, high-quality, and available childcare and how the search for and subsequent involvement in various childcare situations connects deeply to mothers' careers and life choices. Data collection consisted of a review of existing research and writing, on-site observations, and interviews with eight voluntary participants. The research is framed in several subsections, and findings are grouped accordingly: What are common expectations of mothers today? What sacrifices are mothers asked to make in order to accommodate childcare? How does the accessibility of childcare impact a mothers routine? How does a mother's comfort level with childcare affect her decisions? Does the affordability of childcare dictate more than just the choice of childcare options? Can childcare create a sense of community all on its own?" -- Abstract
