Overview

"This thesis explores the story of Solveig, a Viking shield maiden, as she confronts the challenges of an impending prophecy of war and nightmares of a terrifying being. As she navigates these obstacles, Solveig's faith in the gods is tested, and she must reconcile her belief with the unsettling events that unfold around her. In addition, she is driven by a quest for revenge for the murder of her adoptive father and seeks to claim the title of King of Jarls on the small continent island of Harkonr. Through an in-depth analysis of Solveig's experiences, this thesis examines the themes of identity, religion, and revenge in Viking culture, and explores how these concepts intersect with the broader historical and cultural context of the Viking Age." -- Abstract
