Overview

"Madrid follows LAURA (10), who is an average almost 5 grader who loves the Jonas Brothers and reading Goosebumps novels with her best friend SARAH (10). She thought her life would be the same forever until her father, CONRAD (40s) announces she and her family are moving halfway across the world to Madrid, Spain for his big corporate job. Now she must face a new school and adjust to a completely different world from the one she knew in her Western Pennsylvania town. She soon meets new people from all over the world which opens her mind up to new ways of living and cultures. Life seems to be going ok but suddenly her mother, ANNETTE (40s) won't stop drinking, her brother JOSH (13) won't talk to her and her father is becoming more distant. Desperate to get her family back to normal, Laura throws herself into her schoolwork to make her parents notice her achievements and love her again. That all goes out the window when her father stops coming home and won't stop telling the rest of the family to go back to Pennsylvania. Laura had just started to have a good group of friends, so why is it all going to go away all of sudden? Why won't her father just tell her the real reason he is acting so weird, and be the loving father she knows he is? Laura will have to fight for her family even if they are no longer the ones she thought she was so used to." -- Abstract
