Overview
"This masters' thesis contains both written artist statements as well as a full-length feature screenplay titled Dorothy. Through this project, I was able to explore familial dynamics and reunions in the face of extreme grief. This thesis project studies grief through its power to unite as well as completely tear apart. In my screenplay, the two main characters, Sadie and Rose, are estranged sisters who suddenly lose their mother, Dottie. They are forced to work through their deep seated resentments towards one another as they plan and throw a funeral service for their late mother with the help of the rest of their family: their children, and their father, Ed. Ultimately, this earth shattering moment prompts both Sadie and Rose to put their upset with one another into perspective, as they are forced to come to terms with the reality that no one knows how much time they'll have with the people they love." -- Abstract
