Overview

"In recent years, playmaking and devising have become more widely used theatrical processes in schools and professional theatre settings. The chance to create an original piece of theatre is one that many young theatre makers are given at some point in their theatrical careers; however, the playmaking process is still widely shrouded in mystery and widely reserved for college-aged students. With this playmaking workshop, which was intended to be offered to a group of ensemble members of the Teen Musical Theatre of Oregon in Medford, Oregon as an enrichment course in their spring season, I intended to expose them to playmaking and devising and to allow them the opportunity to create an original piece of theatrical work throughout three weeks of playmaking activities. The workshop was postponed indefinitely due to the worldwide outbreak of Covid-19 in the spring of 2020, so, this document includes my lesson plans and the general thinking and rationale for those lesson plans." -- Abstract
