Overview

"On the eve of her engagement party, Veralyn LaStrauss, apprentice to master cartographer Richard Grayson, discovers her mentor has been kidnapped. His half-brother Matthias is the primary suspect. Named in the ransom note, Veralyn is tasked with finding a mysterious map called the Tagon Map to exchange for Master Grayson's return. During her search, she discovers a note from Master Grayson warning that dangerous magic—tied to the crystal containing the map—has infected her home city of Port McLaren. Veralyn defies her controlling father by abandoning her engagement party in order to participate in the ransom exchange. However, she's double crossed and barely escapes with her life. Realizing someone she trusts has betrayed her, Veralyn breaks Matthias out of prison. He promises to aid her in saving his half-brother in exchange for his inheritance, and they set sail with a ship of female smugglers." -- Abstract
