Overview

"In the summer of 1984, Cate Smith Cruz, a teenage musical prodigy, is on the cusp of her freshman year when a disturbing apparition, Devoid, reappears. The last time she saw this evil spirit was at the age of eight. Cate escapes by writing lyrics and playing the piano, for it transcends time and space. She is driven to harness music's mystical forces to counter the ghost that threatens her sanity and happiness. Yet, the very thing she loves is attracting trouble as her ambition crosses paths with foes: the ghastly Devoid, the Sloans (mean girls), her mother, and even herself. She learns about human nature and the universal power struggle. Seen and unseen forces want Cate to cease playing or get cut from life. What is her destiny in a world that demands to shape every aspect of her life?" -- Abstract
