Overview
"This project is an excerpt of 'Samara,' a romantic Fantasy Adventure with the soul and sensibilities of the Victorian era. In a city ruled by strict class hierarchy and a militant Lord Protector, magic is outlawed as a dangerous an unpredictible curse. Here a young seamstress makes an unsavory deal to save her younger brother, discovering she has illicit magic of her own. After a literal tumble down a magic well with a lawyer-turned-criminal, they must find their way home in an unfamiliar wilderness while fighting their caustic attraction to one another, all with a corrupt government, a feline shapeshifter, and a cunning witch on their heels. 'Samara' explores still-pertinent themes surrounding class and community segregation, as well as the issues surrounding familial abandonment, societal lies that both men and women may internalize and struggle against, and perhaps most importantly to me, how these complicate self identity and self-worth." -- Abstract
