Overview
"'Charlie Parker and the Mystic Mountain' is a middle-grade fantasy adventure novel set in a Narnia-like world. Charlie Parker is a 12-year-old boy living in a normal town at the foot of a mystical mountain. He wishes he was anyone else, living anywhere else. His only safe haven is the dojo, where he practices karate and meditation—a road his mom started him on before she died giving birth to his little sister. Everything changes for Charlie when he finds a magic key from the hidden world on the mountain. When the mountain's ruler kidnaps his sister and holds her as ransom for the key, Charlie and his estranged best friend Lily must journey up the mountain to save her—a quest made all the more difficult when the key's magic shrinks them down to the size of mice. On the mountain, they discover a bitterly divided magical world of talking animals enslaved by their ruler. In the race to rescue his sister, Charlie must not only find peace and forgiveness within himself, he must teach the Mountainfolk to find it amongst each other, so they can unite to fight for their own freedom." -- Abstract
