The Pirates of Penzance

folder — record carton: MSS 001 Box 04
Identifier: MSS 001-03

Scope and Contents

From the Series:

This series contains musical scores for the Gilbert and Sullivan operas, and consists of vocal, piano, pianoforte, and a variety of other arrangements. Some items are sheet music, and others are published books of music, either of all of the opera's songs or in a collection of popular songs. There are also several treasuries of Gilbert and Sullivan songs. Most of the scores are undated, and the collection contains a large number of scores published by the Oliver Ditson Company in Boston. There are also a number of scores for Arthur Sullivan songs written without W.S. Gilbert. Some of the scores are in fragile condition, and many of the covers have separated from their books, which have been placed together when possible to identify. There are a number of detached cover pages and single sheets of music which have been placed in the appropriate subseries by opera.
