Kiss Me Kate score, 1948
Scope and Contents
This series contains conducting scores for Broadway musicals collected by Benetsky during his career. Some are labeled as librettos or vocal scores. All of the musicals were first produced between c. 1924 and c. 1993; the scores are usually later publications, dating from c. 1932 to c. 1993. Of note are the scores heavily annotated by Benetsky himself for productions he conducted or music he directed. These include: Oh, Coward (1972); From Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill (1972); They’re Playing Our Song (1979); and Man of La Mancha (1962). The Man of La Mancha item is interleaved with xeroxed memos pertaining to the musical arrangement for the 1965 production. Also included in this series is one of Benetsky’s own conducting batons, which was found marking a page in Oh, Coward.
