Scope and Contents
This series contains programs from Boston, New York, and Massachusetts theaters. The bulk of the collection is in Subseries A: Boston, with significant holdings from the Colonial Theatre, the Shubert Theatre, and the Wilbur Theatre. Other theaters include Charles Playhouse, the Wang Center (formerly Music Hall), and the War Memorial Theatre. Subseries A highlights include Hostile Witness starring Ray Milland (Colonial, 1965; Box 14) Mame starring Angela Lansbury (Shubert, 1966; Box 15) and The Apple Tree starring Barbara Harris, Larry Blyden, and Alan Alda (Shubert, 1966; Box 15).
Productions from The Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Metropolitan Opera form the bulk of Subseries A music and dance performance programs. The Boston Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, Moiseyev Dance Company, the Boston Lyric Opera and the BU Celebrity concert series are also represented.
Subseries B: New York City programs documents theater, music, and dance productions from 1926-1985. A variety of theaters are represented, including ANTA Theatre, Billy Rose Theatre, John Golden Theatre, New York City Center, and Plymouth Theatre. Subseries B highlights include As You Like It starring Katherine Hepburn (The Cort Theatre, 1950; Box 20), The Entertainer starring Laurence Olivier (Royale Theatre, 1958; Box 21), and The Miracle Worker starring Anne Bancroft (The Playhouse, 1960; Box 21).
Subseries C contains programs from Massachusetts theaters such as the Williamstown Theater in Williamstown, Stage West in Springfield, and the Carousel Theatre in Framingham.
